Hidden Japan Tour [Tokyo, Nikko, Hakone, Kyoto, Mt. Koya, Osaka]

Product Code: HJT
From £ 3,037 /pp

[Assisted] 10 days

This is a truly special tour, not just because it includes plenty of assisted day tours of must see locations. On offer is the opportunity to experience an element of Japanese life rarely seen even by most Japanese people - the austere life of Buddhist monks on Mt. Koya, the home of Esoteric Buddhism. Mt. Koya is home to the Koya-san sect of Shingon Buddhism, a faith ritually followed throughout Japan. Mt. Koya is also internationally recognised as a part of the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes of the Kii Mountain Range", a UNESCO World Heritage Listed site since 2004.

At the summit of the revered mountain, temples have opened up accommodation known as "shukubo" inhabited by monks alone, who now welcome visitors from Japan and beyond. In keeping with the religious life of the monks, accommodation is simple, meals vegetarian. The experience of learning from the monks and partaking in haunting morning prayers will stay with you forever and a day. On top of a mountain, in holiest Japan, walking through the eerie forest cemetery of Okunoin, embrace this purest of moments, and freeze it in time.

Enjoy a full day sightseeing of Hakone, famous for it's stunning views of Mt. Fuji, followed by a night in a traditional Japanese inn to experience a purely Japanese atmosphere, delicious authentic cuisine, futon bedding and hot spring bathing.

Be like the Japanese and ''Never say kekko - I've had enough - until you've seen Nikko''. Visit this beautiful place, well known for it's temples and shrines and a waterfall Kegon.

No trip to Japan would be complete without seeing the famous cities of Tokyo and Kyoto. Your central hotels will hand you easy access any of the sites you wish to visit. Before your departure, we will provide you with thorough information on both cities, enabling you to choose how you spend your time.
